C. candamaronsis - It is the mountain papaya amd is a small tree with cordate palmately 5 - lobed leaves and small yellow 5-angled fruit about 3 to 4 inch in length.
C. gracilis - It is a small slender and ornamental species. It has compound leave of 5 digital each leaflet having way indentations, the middle leaflet being 3 lobed.
C. erythrocarpa - This is a small tree. The fruit has thin red flesh.
C. papaya - This is a small tree. evergreen with a hollow soft wood and generally unbranched. This plants are used for medicinal purpose.

Origin and distribution -
The papaya is an important fruit of tropical and sub tropical regions of world. It is native of tropical America and was introduced to india in the 16 th century. It is now grown in all the tropical and sub tropical countries.
In India it is now widely grown in almost all the states with tropical and subtropical climates.
